BugLand™ with LIVE Ladybird Larvae!

Raise and release your very own ladybirds with this fun, reusable, and colourful BugLand island habitat.

With a built-in magnifying lid you can observe the larvae up close while they explore the island and drink from the ‘volcano’. Watch as they transform from small larvae to adult ladybirds in approximately 4 weeks (may be less in warmer weather), before releasing every gardener's favourite beneficial insect into nature!

A fascinating project for children and adults alike, and a fun introduction to the world of entomology!

The ladybirds can be a mix of black with red spots and red with black spots and should be released within 24hrs unless an abundant supply of aphids can be sourced to feed them.

Includes:

  • BugLand™ - Super-clear habitat with removable dome, built-in magnifying lid and a water reservoir “volcano”
  • 10 ladybird larvae with food (or PREPAID Voucher to redeem later)
  • Pipette
  • Instruction guide

Pair with the 'My Ladybird Observation Diary (Ages 4-6)' for a perfect STEM learning experience.  Record your ladybird life cycle observations, learn the anatomy of the ladybird and more!

Our BugLand™ isn’t just for ladybirds, reuse the habitat and collect your choice of insects to observe.  The BugLand™ is also available without ladybird larvae here.

Q&A

Can I use the butterfly enclosure we got previously to grow the ladybirds?
Hello David, Unfortunately not, they would escape this habitat!
Do they require water/care every day? Considering for a preschool, so no one on site at weekends. Thank you
Hello Jan, They have all the food they need with them and they will need releasing pretty soon after emergence, but are fine to be left for a few days over the weekend!
How do you get the ladybirds out once they are ready to leave?
Hello, The dome of the BugLand will lift off and you can let them crawl out or gently crawl on your hands to let them out!
How do the ladybirds get enough oxygen in the enclosed habitat?
Hello Hazel, There will be plenty of air in the habitat, however, you will also 'air' the habitat, when adding the drops of water through the small opening in the top of the habitat each day.
Hi are these native ladybirds? Thanks
Hello, Yes! They are the Adalia Bipuncture species which are native to many countries.
