This rewarding educational kit is designed specifically for teachers and classrooms. It enables each student to raise their own Painted Lady Butterfly and witness the wonder of the butterfly life cycle. The Live Butterfly Pavilion School Kit provides educators with many opportunities to teach science, math, reading, environmental studies and environmental awareness.
The entire transformation from caterpillar to adult butterfly takes between three to five weeks depending on the time of year, please take into account upcoming holidays when choosing a send out date for your kit to ensure the whole cycle can be observed. Caterpillars are available from March to mid-September.

33 caterpillars will arrive with all of the nutritious food they need. Firstly, separate the food and caterpillars into the individual vials and place them in a safe location away from direct sunlight. The caterpillars will remain in the vials, where they will eat, spin silk, and grow to ten times their original size. Then, after seven to ten days, they will hang upside down and harden into chrysalides.
Raise Your Very Own Butterflies
Once the chrysalides have fully hardened, carefully move them to the pop-up butterfly habitat. Then, over the next seven to ten days, they will complete their transformation into adult butterflies.
The Butterfly Garden Habitat is a reusable, cylindrical mesh container perfect for up-close butterfly viewing! When not in use it folds flat for easy storage. Then when you wish to raise more butterflies, just purchase a School Kit Refill here.

Please note - Immediately upon receipt of the caterpillars, you will need to distribute the food and caterpillars between the vials, instructions on how to do this are included. If you should receive more than 33 caterpillars, any remaining may stay and develop in the cup they arrived in.

All non-live orders leave our offices within 1-3 working days unless the item(s) are out of stock, or if your order includes a Live product with a chosen send-out date of 3 weeks or less away (in which case we will dispatch all goods, live and non-live, on the requested send out date).
