Choose to receive the kit with either a voucher, where you or the recipient have the flexibility to start raising butterflies when ready, or with LIVE caterpillars immediately (by selecting a send out date). Caterpillars are available from March to mid-September only.
See an Amazing Transformation
6-10 caterpillars (live butterfly cultures) will arrive within 2 clear plastic cups with all of the nutritious food they need. Place the cups in a safe place away from direct sunlight. The caterpillars will remain in the cups and will eat, spin silk and grow to TEN times their original size! After seven to ten days they will hang upside down and harden into chrysalides (chrysalides are also known as pupae).
Raise Your Very Own Butterflies
Once the chrysalides have hardened, gently move them to the pop-up butterfly habitat. It will take about seven to ten more days for them to complete the transformation to adult butterflies.
The Butterfly Garden Habitat is a reusable, cylindrical mesh container perfect for up-close butterfly viewing! When not in use it folds flat for easy storage. Then when you wish to raise more butterflies, just order refill Cups of Caterpillars here.

"A wonderful experience from start to finish! We bought this butterfly kit as a project to do with my son, and we have absolutely loved it. Watching the caterpillars grow, form their chrysalises and eventually emerge as butterflies was fascinating, educational and incredibly exciting. The kit was easy to set up and came with everything we needed. We quickly ended up naming all of our caterpillars and butterflies and giving them their own personalities! All ten caterpillars turned to chrysalises and emerged. We were lucky enough to witness several butterflies emerge, and I even managed to capture some of the process on camera. Watching them unfold their wings and learn to fly was amazing. When we released them, two even landed on my son, which he absolutely loved. One of our butterflies, Rebel, unfortunately emerged with wings that did not fully unfold, she had been knocked off her spot and was on the floor of the cup where I wasn't able to remove her for longer than I would have liked. . We decided to keep her with us and care for her, and my son was delighted that she could stay. This kit gave us a wonderful opportunity to learn about the butterfly life cycle together and created so many lovely memories. We would definitely recommend it as an engaging and educational project for children. We have loved our experience so much that we're now looking forward to our next insect project."
