Unfortunately only one caterpillar survived

"Unfortunately only one caterpillar survived to the chrisalide stage which we are currently at. As a childminder I have bought these every year for the children to observe and never had any issues so not sure what went wrong this time but I do know it’s not guaranteed for them to all hatch. "Delighted to be able to buy a refill set. The set contains everything you need to repeat the wonderful process of raising caterpillars, and you get all the same tips and advice from Insect Lore as first time around. Also worth noting that the website FAQs are really helpful! One of our chrysalides fell off the lid. . . but we knew what to do! Another caterpillar was still crawling around whilst the rest had formed chrysalides - again, we knew what to do! Thank you Insect Lore, you do a great job!"

Last year all five caterpillars

"Last year all five caterpillars hatched it was great this year sadly on three have made it into butterflies not sure why two didn’t make it tomorrow is release day great fun"

The cups were resting on

"The cups were resting on their lids when I received them. So goodness knows how long the cups had been upside down. One cup has produced five caterpillars and subsequent chrysalis. the other cup three chrysalis although two have fallen to the bottom of the cup and I had to place them on paper in the habitat. A fourth caterpillar attached itself to the lid but died not forming a chrysalis. I was hoping to release butterflies on the 9th May but they are still some days away from hatching."

"I'm almost 75 years old & always look forward to the arrival of my skinny little caterpillars. Watching them turn into chrysalis & then beautiful Painted Ladies & finally watching them flutter around my garden is such a joy. Q&A

Hi there! I’m just wondering about next year’s order. I’m a Reception teacher and our topic for this half term has been all about spring. The children have loved watching the caterpillars grow and they were delivered on 6th March, but they did not pupate before the start of the Easter holidays (today). I’m looking ahead to next year to see if I can order the caterpillars any earlier so that the children can hopefully see them pupate before the Easter break. I know they are only available between March and September, but will I be able to preorder caterpillars to be dispatched or delivered on 1st March 2027? Sorry for the long question! Thank you in advance.: Hello Hannah, Because Easter was so early this year, we were advising people to order after Easter this year. Apologies, if you did not receive this message! With Easter being even earlier this year, even if you order for our first dispatch you will still not have enough time as the process can take 5 weeks in March! We would advise next year, doing the project after the Easter Holidays.
